Bourbon Balls
Filling
Instructions
-
Mix together your bourbon, nuts & vanilla. Let sit for a few hours or overnight in the fridge. This would be a great time to use some exciting tasty bourbon or high quality vanilla as they will really shine in this recipe annnnnd you don't have to use up a whole lot of them!
In a separate bowl, mix together the remaining ingredients, you may need to use your hands to mix the butter in thoroughly. Add the nut mixture to this and incorporate. If this is significantly sticky, you can add more powdered sugar, a tablespoon at a time. If it is significantly dry, add a bit more butter or bourbon, 1 tsp at a time. Refrigerate this for 2-3 hours, or overnight. When you remove this from the fridge, make sure that the mixture is a good consistency to roll into a ball. Even if they are a bit dry, that is ok, as long as they can hold their shape. If not, add a bit more butter to help. Roll your mixture into balls - the size is up to you, but I like to make smaller bite sized ones! Place them all on a parchment lined sheet tray. Refrigerate another hour or 2. Melt your chocolate - I use a double boiler to keep it warm and avoid seizing. Now you are ready to dip your bourbon balls, place them onto another parchment lined sheet tray - add any toppings you'd like! If you want to quicken the setting time, you can pop into the fridge. These are ready to serve, box or enjoy!!!
*Options - if you'd like to use leftover cake or day old donuts or croissants etc as part of your filling, you can make them into crumbs and replace the powdered sugar with these items. It can be fun to mess around with different ways of making the filling, once you have a good formula, you can just substitute from there!!!
